Walk a Mile for Mental Health
Matthew Casso’s Eagle Scout Project to Raise Awareness for Mental Health

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and we’re bringing this issue to the forefront. Established in 1949, this observance calls attention to a variety of mental health illnesses, including depression, stress, bipolar disorder and many other issues. Supporting positive mental health brings hope to countless individuals and families who deal with life’s emotional struggles. 

You’re invited to help raise awareness in the Clear Lake community through a walk.

The Walk
Begin at Krist Samaritan Center and walk along El Camino Village Drive to your heart’s content. You’ll have an opportunity to walk and talk with Krist Samaritan Center staff about how the Center helps those in need through faith-based counseling, psychological testing and psychiatric consultation.

Krist Samaritan Center recognized as a Houston Business Journal 2011 Healthcare Heroes finalist, in the “Community Outreach Organization” category. The award honors those who serve, innovate and save lives, and was presented during a reception in the Grand Foyer at the Wortham Theater on May 18, 2011.

•	One in every five Houstonians has a mental illness.
•	Of the roughly 665,000 Houstonians who do have an illness, 181,690 have a serious one.
•	More than 1.4 million Houstonians are close to someone who has a mental illness.
•	Houston loses more than $5.6 billion annually in work productivity as a result of mental illness.
