Corporate Competitiveness and Mental Health

According to the 2009 – 2010 Global Competitiveness Report (GCR), a yearly report published by the World Economic Forum, the United States fell to fourth place as the most competitive economy in the world — a significant decline from our nation's previous first place ranking. Productivity growth is perhaps the single clearest indicator of a nation's economic health. This drop is an important reflection of the consequences America faces from lack of efficiency in the workplace.

Lost productivity is often the result of mental health related issues. For example, the correlation between depression and decreased job efficiency was illustrated in the World Health Organization (WHO) Health and Work Performance Questionnaire. Researchers who analyzed employee responses to the questionnaire found that workers with depression reported the equivalent of 27 lost work days per year — nine of them because of sick days and another 18 reflecting lost productivity due to depression. This data is substantial, especially considering depression is one of several other mental health disorders with symptoms that typically go unnoticed and untreated in the workplace.

Studies suggest that costs spent on mental health care will represent a greater return on investment in the long run — not only in healthier employees, but also for the success of a company's financial health and the country's economic growth.

The ecumenical celebration recognized the Center's growth from a single office to more than 20 locations, bringing hope and guidance to more than 40,000 families and indirectly impacting countless others. We were honored to have speakers such as Rev. Gail Ford Smith (pictured below left), special guests such as Carole and Ronald Krist (pictured below middle) and Marsha and Jim Braniff (pictured below right), as well as several members of our Board of Directors, past and present.

MindWorks Testing for Kids

Did you know that approximately 33% of students with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) drop out of high school? They are also less likely to attend and graduate from college.

Krist Samaritan Center's MindWorks Testing provides a safe and comfortable environment for psychological testing, as well as assessments to detect ADD, ADHD and other learning disabilities.
