SPIRIT - November 2011 - Touching Lives + Healing Hearts
'Tis the Season to be Jolly

For most Americans, the holiday season begins with Thanksgiving and entails a dizzying array of parties, shopping, baking, cleaning and entertaining. So much for peace and joy, right?

In fact, holiday stress statistics reported by the American Psychological Association (APA) show that up to 69 percent of people are stressed by the feeling of having a 'lack of time', while 51 percent feel stressed out over the 'pressure to give or get gifts'.

Don't let the holidays become something you dread. Setting priorities and taking care of yourself mentally, physically and emotionally will go a long way toward putting more joy and cheer back into the holidays.

Here are five steps to reduce stress levels this season and even put the 'Happy' back in your 'Holidays.'
- Identify what is meaningful.
- Take care of yourself.
- Express your thoughts and feelings.
- Plan and delegate.
- Challenge unrealistic expectations.
A Samaritan Celebration

This year, 340 people attended the Krist Samaritan Center gala where four honorees were bestowed with the Samaritan Spirit Award, including philanthropist Margaret Alkek Williams, authors of ' Same Kind of Different as Me' Ron Hall and Denver Moore, and corporate champion Southwest Airlines. Held on November 1 at River Oaks Country Club, the annual gala raised more than $300,000 for the Center's Counseling Assistance Fund, making it one of the most successful events to date.

Thank you to all who attended A Samaritan Celebration 2011. Your financial and personal support is invaluable to us and our work at the Center. Special thanks to everyone who planned and worked behind the scenes to make the event a success—Krist Samaritan Center couldn't have done it without you.
