Raising Spirits Through Play

For young children that suffer from mental or emotional disorders or are trying to overcome trauma, the best therapy can often be the most natural — through play. Play is how children communicate, and it expands learning, development and interpersonal skills. With the help of a professional therapist, it can also be a way for children to resolve internal conflicts and overcome personal challenges.

Play therapy is when a therapist observes and interacts with a child at play to understand behavioral patterns and assess problems with social or emotional skills. According to the Association for Play Therapy, 'toys are like the child's words and play is the child's language.' Through play, therapists can help children express themselves when they are unable to verbalize their thoughts or feelings, as well as help children learn adaptive behaviors.

If your child is struggling, the staff at Krist Samaritan Center can help instill hope and facilitate healing in a relaxed, fun and safe environment. Call 281.480.7554 to schedule an appointment today.
